Recently, I've been reading 1421: The Year China Discover The World written by Gavin Menzies. To summarise up to what I've read, basically its about the great Admiral Zheng He (Laksamana Cheng Ho) and its exploration / navigation all over the world. For your information, this is a book that rewrite world exploration history.
We all are well aware of history of the Spanish armada and its exploration through out the world. The names like Prince Henry "The Navigator", Columbus (the man who discovered America with his famous ships Nina, Pinta and Sta Maria and who thought of is was the Spies Island i.e. Indonesian isle), Ferdinand Magellan (the first man claimed to navigate all around the world), Vasco da Gamma, Alfonso De Alburqueque (the portugese admiral who lead the invasion on Malacca port) and much more.
However, the writer, through his thorough research believed that the Chinese maritime capability was far more advanced than European's. He claimed that Chinese treasure armada was the first maritime fleet to navigate to American continent (up to Tiera Del Fuego at the tip of South America continent), lead by Admiral Zheng He.
According to the book, Malacca was an important trading port to the Chinese treasure fleet for storage and traits. This was due to its strategic location and its spices trade.
| Quote: | | When Malacca is visited by Chinese merchant vessels, (the inhabitants)erect a barrier (for the collection of duties). There are four gates in the city wall, each furnished with watch and drum towers. At night men with hand bells patrol the precints. Inside the walls, a second small enclosure of palisades has been built where warehouses have been constructed for the storage of specie and provisions. When the government ships (Zheng He's fleet) were returning homewards, they visited this place in order both to repair their vessels and to load local products. Here they waited for a favourable wind from the south and in the middle of the fifth month (June) the put to sea on their return voyage....Ma Huan, 1424. |
Actually, i was really impressed by the way the writer described Malacca, specifically, its port and wanted to see the remains of what is left of it now. That's where I've headed on the 17 of September 2005 (1st time since school years). However, I'm no archeologist, to search and find some "missing" link that could reconnects what could and should have been written in our school text books.
What I've found there intrigued me. The building, though repainted again and again, still maintained their "ancient" looks. The design seems to be like the combination of several cultures blend together which I believed "coloured" the face of Malacca. I saw buildings that seems to be the hybrid of both Malays and Chinese, and some even have the touch of the Europeans (Portugese, Dutch and English), erected since the day Malacca fall.
Deep in my heart, I really wished, as a proud Malaysian, we could preserved the value that was left for us to appreciate and maybe learned from it.
P/s: Certainly, i miss the famous A Famosa picture and i wish i have more time to spend.

Selamat Hari Merdeka ke 48
|
|
Hahaha... It was a very tiring holiday but certainly entertaining.... worth the sweat and sleep... Like what 'pepatah melayu' always said...'nak seribu daya, tak nak seribe dalih'...Whenever it come to something u really love to do.. u'll never give it up... i guess this is what hold all this while.
Merdeka Day for me is an event that i eagerly wait. Its happy snapping day for all photographers in Malaysia... an event that no one ever miss.
Its started on the eve of 31st August where the night filled with fireworks display all over Malaysia. I've chosed KLCC as my spot. Thanks to Farah and the family for giving me a spot again this year. I've been in KLCC as early as 8.30 to reserve cheap car park and went back home at 3.00am. But, the excitement do not finished there....
At 6.30am... I rushed to Putrajaya for the Annual Merdeka Parade (It was late.. hahaha). The grand stand already pack with people and photographers when i arrived. I unable to fit-in so i have to settled my self a bit far from the grand stand... its ok as long as i could shoot the paraders passing by but surely i missed all the grand stand shows esp. when the boy who shouting 'merdeka' loss his count. But nevermind... consider ok as its my 1st time shooting Merdaka Parade.
I would like to thanks Munir, my good close counsy, for being a good companion (some sort like Baggins and Gamgees) on the whole event and hope u enjoy it too... Opps... Merdeka means Independence in Malay.... Happy Birthday Malaysia.

Port Dickson Weekend Getaway
|
|
Port Dickson was a great weekend getaway. Yes, it was… especially after disastrous week (especially, when I was suffocated with asthma for two days because of the haze). PD weekend travel was actually planned 2 months ago but only now it was realized. To be honest, I don’t really expect to have the adequate time to shoot around PD town, so I spend few hours at Desa Lagoon Resort beach compound shooting anything that I feel interesting.
A sunset view from Desa Lagoon Resort beach compound
Yes, of course one of it is sun set but since it was just one day after a week long haze, the scenery, even though it was improving, it wasn’t fully recover. I also use the opportunity to test ND grad filter and ND2X filter and that I haven’t used since it was bought 3 months ago (really waste of time). The results were ok and there still lots of space for improvement. Anyway, I am please to share my thoughts and views through the pictures I took.. Enjoy!!!

I reserved thousands thanks to Syirin and Rusdi fo everything...
Dont forget to drop at In Mono at http://inmono.fotopages.com for black and white panorama beach scenery siries and some in normal 35mm. Below is the sneak preview.

|
|
Hi guys... feel great to post again. ha ha... nothing much.. just few of my shot of things i see through my 300D, which i feel a bit abstract to look at it from certain angles and perspectives. For those pictures, it might be either eye-candy or abstract and i would love to put it on ur eye to say about that.

Citrawarna 2005 - A Glimpse of Asian Culture
|
|
Having the opportunity to capture a festival is something that i hardly resist. On the eve of 9 July 05, asian cultures was celebrated and Malaysian history was at the edge of the world. I am delighted to share the excitement on the night i wont forget, one of 'the' night of my early days in photography
| Quote: | This year, the opening sequence began with a presentation entitled the “Birth of a Nation” (Lahir Sebuah Negara) where it features the `Golden Era` of 15th century Melaka. This segment on the arrival of early migrants to the Malay Peninsula featured the cultural presentations of the various ethnic communities in Malaysia. The first being the Javanese community followed by the Hindu community from Southern India, the Arab merchants and the Chinese from mainland China.
The `Malaysia Baru` segment with cultural presentations from Sabah and Sarawak precedes the other presentations from Asia before coming to a close with a fireworks display and a presentation on `Malaysia Truly Asia`.
With the theme “The Colours of Asia in Malaysia”, the event not only featured songs and dances from Malaysia, but the cultural and folk dance presentations from invited countries in Asia as well, especially those from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, China and Korea. |
Great having the evening with Chip and Hanie but missed Patah and Bad. I reserved my thousands thanks to Farah for such opportunity and the tag esp.

Brinchang's Peak - Seeing my dream vanished
|
|
Our dream to conquer Mount Irau vanished in the misty peak of Brinchang's. Mother nature really unleashed her power this time. At that point I realised how tiny I am as a god's creation. As the weather really looks unpromising, we decided to postpone our plan to climb Irau and spend a night at the peak of Brinchang. Below is Mount Irau looks so promising.
As the entry point to Irau, Brinchang's peak has its own attraction. The scenery was impressively magnificent. You can see the stretch of Titiwangsa as far as your eye can see. There is Mount Irau on your left and the Cameron Valley on your right. Stand approximately 2,100m above sea level, Brinchang's peak hold a record as the highest road in the Peninsular Malaysia.
The experience in Brinchang's peak is not to be miss. It is worth to wake up as early as 6.00 and freeze by the extra-cold windy morning at the Brinchang's peak look-out point. It was really fun to witness how the day started at the Cameron's Valley and the misty scenery of Titiwangsa was so beautiful. Tribute to Intan for accompany me as early as that.
The feeling at Brinchang's peak was hardly describe by mouth. It something that only pictures could give the answer. Million of thanks to the Guilty Parties - Napi, Ruza, Ash, Pejol, Mie, Intan, Azza, Su and Cik Yam. Hope we could conquer Irau in few months to come. Hope everybody could feel the excitement i felt through the pictures.
